Control and monitoring of electric under floor heating system

The I•WARM 720 thermostat permanently controls the operating condition of the heating system. If it is impossible to heat the floor surface to the preset temperature you will see the ATTENTION sign displayed (fig. 36).

There are two main reasons why the I•WARM 720 may not reach the preset temperature; (1) if doors and windows are open for long periods of time (2) the loading (watts/m2) of your heater is insufficient to achieve desired temperature in your premise.

The thermostat permanently controls the operation of the floor sensor. In the event of a malfunction of the floor sensor (cut off or short circuit of connection wires) it is impossible for the heating system to operate. The thermostats will turn heating system off and display a warning message (fig. 37, 38).

In this event you should contact the manufacturer or your local supplier.

Indoor Electrical Equipment regulations must install all wiring; failure to do so may invalidate the warranty. We strongly recommend NOT to install the thermostat in premises with high air humidity. It is prohibited to install the device in bathrooms, saunas, shower cubicles, pools. The thermostat controlling the electric under floor heating in these premises must be installed in neighboring dry room. Please study this manual carefully before start the installation work.

Tools and materials required for thermostat installation:

1. Corrugated plastic tube not less than 16mm in diameter; the length depends on distance between the thermostat and the heating unit

2. Standard junction box for wall mounting units

3. Screwdriver

4. Phase voltage indicator

Installation of floor mounting temperature sensor

Floor temperature sensor is installed when you perform your heating element (mat or cable section) installation. Place the sensor in the corrugated plastic tube near its end, and seal this end of the tube to prevent penetration of water, tile fixing mixture or cement mortar in the course of heated floor arrangement. The tube containing the temperature sensor must be located at the same level as the heating cable between two neighboring passes of this cable. Place the tube in preliminarily prepared grove in the floor and lead its other end to the place chosen for thermostat or junction box location. Cut off excessive tube length at sight.

Thermostat connection

Preparation of electrical connections

thermostat sensor location

Install junction box into the wall where location of the thermostat is planned. Lead to the box power supply cable, cold leads of the heating mat or section, temperature sensor cable. Power the cable off.

All thermostat connection work must be performed only when power network is completely disconnected. Connect all required wires to the thermostat using its terminals with screw fastening (fig.49).

If you have three wire power network (with separate earthing conductor) use the connection diagram showed on fig. 50. Heating cable screen is connected to the earthing condutor of the network by means of external terminal block (included in the delivery set), by screw fastening.

Thermostat installation

First of all disassemble the thermostat. Take off the front cover, for that by thin screwdriver carefully press in turn the locks located on upper and lower sides of the front cover, pulling it slightly out (fig. 51). Remove the cover (fig. 52).

thermostat wiring diagram

Remove the frame (fig. 53).

Place the device into the junction box and fasten by means of at least two screws (preferably located at the same horizontal level). (fig. 54).

Assemble the thermostat acting in reverse order. Install the frame carefully ensuring that it closely fits to the device’s case. Then return the front cover to its place and press it ensuring that both locks have fixed it. Make sure that the front cover is fixed properly.
